Sketchbook
My daughter and I were looking at old photos a year ago, long before I decided I would embrace my being an artist professionally. We discovered my old hand painted cards in the depths of my laptop.
When I moved to the U.K. thirteen years ago, I spent my time painting and volunteering at local charities until I could begin working in earnest. I used to sell my artwork in D.C., Alexandria, Austin and Philly but it was a side hustle, a passion project. I held senior comms roles that paid the mortgage.
I never truly explored following my love of art. Consulting and entrepreneurship enabled me to provide for my family and to help others. I think it’s why I am quite visually creative in my approach to my engagements. My daughter looked at my “Fast Talking Dames” stationery and said, “Mama, I am inspired!”
She ran and got her pens, wooden box of pencils as a surface, paper and began to draw. She and her sister inspire me every day with their artwork and their wonderful personalities. I think she and her sister and brother are all incredible artists.
Art is a process and a journey. That is what this sketchbook is all about; it is an online diary of my progress as a person through my art. Thank you for visiting and joining me.
