I am thrilled to have created something totally unique for an amazing, inspiring artist, Anna Kompaniets. Anna is a wonderfully colourful, bold and self described maximalist performance artist, specialising in wearable art and scarves. I am grateful to be able to collaborate with her on this piece. When I saw her profile on Instagram, creating unparalleled looks, whether she was on her way to Liberty or playing with her son, I knew she was special.
With all of my bespoke pieces, I like to get to know the person for whom I am creating art. I was so inspired by Anna’s story and journey — it was a joy to collaborate with her. We met on Carnaby Street to discuss what she wanted to see on her bespoke piece. We were aligned on our sustainability and ethical outlook, and we bonded over design and the artistry of scarves and the fashion industry.
We discussed all of the elements in her life that would suit a 90x90 hand finished silk twill scarf and how I would approach it. She sent me reference photos and ideas; she was a dream to work with.
I walked Anna through my process and explained how I create a sketch in Procreate to represent her story. She would then provide feedback, ideas and any additional references. I then iterated the design, developed a line drawing on Arches paper and hand painted her artwork. I always happy to make changes, edit, and incorporate feedback in my work. I want my clients to be happy!
I am overjoyed with our wearable art, and Anna is happy with her final scarf too.
It has been a joy to collaborate with her. One of the best parts of my work is getting to know the people I work with, and Anna is an absolute icon and gem of a human.
I have also loved pushing myself creatively and technically on this piece. If you're not learning something new in the process, you're not growing.
