About the Art

This piece focuses on storytelling as wearable art. Let's have a look at this piece and explore what each motif means:

Medium: Mixed Media: Watercolours and Gouache Caran d’ache, Charvin Arts and Windsor and Newton paint, Micron Pens on watercolour paper.

This piece features on personal aspects of Kathy's life translated into symbols.

  • Doves representing peace
  • Vintage jewellery and sunglasses for sustainability and circularity
  • Foraging for mushrooms with her children in the forest
  • Teal blue as a nod to her love of the ocean
  • Butterflies for change and growth
  • Flowers represent women, from peaceful resistance and a form of feminism
  • The handbag is a feminist reclamation of the purse as women tend to hold ‘things’ -- everyone’s hopes, dreams, snacks -- everything.
  • Celestial elements remind us to live a purpose and values-driven life, to make a difference and a positive impact on both humans and planet
  • Books are for learning, for challenging our preconceived notions, and for keeping an open mind to new ideas
